In this regard, Kyung Hee University of the Republic of Korea has consistently served a pivotal role through education, training and international dialogue, in promoting peace and development.

By supporting international conferences and forums and by bringing international actors together, the University has demonstrated the value of social engagement in achieving these goals of peace and development.

The University proposed creating the United Nations International Day
of Peace in 1981, followed by the International Year of Peace in 1986, and held the Seoul International NGO Conference in 1999.

In the course of adopting declarations and resolutions including the Millennium Declaration, Kyung Hee University, in collaboration with the United Nations, has spearheaded the initiatives to discuss and strengthen the ideas as well as the practical aspects of civic value, engagement and action. The World Civic Youth Forum is a product of the continuous endeavor of Kyung Hee University to maintain these initiatives.

The World Civic Youth Forum (WCYF) 2009 is an international forum of college students to discuss and address global issues of common concern. The Forum is a part of the World Civic Forum(WCF) 2009.
